Understanding mental health

Background and Objectives
A mental health organization wanted to understand the current state of mental health awareness and attitudes towards seeking help among adults (ages 19-45). The objective was to identify opportunities to improve mental health outcomes among this demographic.
Research Methodology
The study utilized a mixed-methods approach, including a survey and one on one interviews using Enumerate AI’s proprietary methodology. The survey included questions about mental health awareness, stigma, and attitudes towards seeking help.
Findings
The survey found that while a majority of recognize the importance of mental health and rate their mental health between average and excellent, many have seen a therapist in the past. Over 1/3rd of respondents reported that they sleep for 6 hours or less.
One on one interviews revealed that respondents feel overwhelmed by the number of resources available and are unsure where to turn for reliable information. Participants also cited a lack of diversity in mental health professionals as a barrier to seeking help, with many expressing a preference for providers who share their cultural background.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Based on the findings, the organization recommended several strategies to improve mental health outcomes among people. These included increasing awareness of mental health resources, addressing stigma through targeted campaigns and education, and increasing diversity in the mental health workforce.
Specific recommendations included developing an online portal to centralize mental health resources and information, partnering with community organizations to increase outreach to underserved populations, and providing training and incentives for mental health professionals to increase diversity in the field.
